Reliable, useful public transit is a requirement for a competitive, successful city. More and more young people are moving to areas that provide a car-free existence.
I do not think anyone would argue that Detroit public transit is in serious need of an overhaul. Many plans currently involve vast sums of capital before the first shovel breaks ground. While these major changes are absolutely imperative, Freshwater Railway is examining options that can vastly improve transit using our current infrastructure.
I recently attended an event outlining their plans at the Park Bar in downtown Detroit. They are still in the planning stages, but it is clear they have some good minds on the case and a common sense approach that just might work.
